I have not done this trail, but Ive packed into (and out of) Phantom Ranch two times.
The best training I have found is cross training. Do what you love, often. Hike, Bike, weight lift, and build your core with pilates to carry your pack.
I have also learned too, the importance of stopping every hour, elevating your feet and drinking and eating salty food. Youll gain weight on the trip, and thats good, its water weight and will go away.
Some mistakes Ive meade are over packing my pack...I am all for putting my junk on the back of and Ass, and carrying my esentials with me.
